In July or 2021 …a champion was born and released into the world of Bluetooth earphones. The complicated naming system of the Sony brand continued with its wf-1000xm4. This was the predecessor of the famous xm3’s prior to that, which shook up the earphone world. This model brought better sound quality(although just a small difference), a new design for comfortable wearing, speak to chat features, which was the first for earphones at that time, better battery life, wireless charging, same ANC that was top of the world, and a perfect pint size case(which was one of the biggest compliants about the previous version). They also above it all made sure they could maintain the most important piece…the LDAC support as very few products have this codec and is the clear advantage to why the Sony’s have stayed on the top of sound quality over all others; easily one of the most overlooked facts in comparison conversations.

They even managed to create a smaller package that was environmentally safer than their previous release. I mean, Sony thought of it all. From the floor up to the ceiling, this model completely changed for the better over its previous predecessor. And this alone is something very few other earphones, if any, can boost about. Innovation and development with a touch of humanity should be at the core of all tech products, but it’s not. And Sony deserves a lot of credit for this.

And now, with all that listed…here is the icing. The Sony’s xm4’s are so well tuned and easily modded for the sound you want that it’s final sound, once you finish adjusting things to your liking, can result of sound quality just short of audiophile Hifi levels. Yes, my Moondrop Blessing 2 sounds better. But they are wired; they don’t have to “hear through.” They don’t have ANC when needed. They don’t have touch controls or any ability to control volume or track unless you buy a different cable with a mic.

They aren’t ideal for phone calls, and they don’t have Google voice integrated inside. But, the moondrops don’t ever run out of battery power because of the wired connection, but that again comes with the possibility of bulk or hanging on things if using them on the go. So that means they are more stationary tech than on the go tech. Whereas the Sonys xm4’s, due to the amazing battery life and wireless charging ability, become more of a convenience tech for any use, not just stationary ones. So, at the end of the day, the xm4s souding better than any other Bluetooth earphone and yet still has the best software and features of any Bluetooth device mixed with the advantages of the bluetooth over wired means only one thing. The Sony xm4’s is the “Best Earphone” on this planet today(as long as they fit you), bluetooth or wired …it doesn’t matter. The overall features and function, sound, and build are just the overall best when added up(not speaking about just sound quality) all that they do. Factually, it’s still a subjective conversation at the end of the day for some. But for me, it’s straight down the middle.
