The new Xm5’s are out and everyone is going crazy over them on you. I say on youtube because as of yet…sales have not kicked in to show the same level of excitement with fans yet. Maybe this will change as more and more reviewers talk about them but right now you are still able to just walk in anywhere and get these headphones where I live . Doesn’t matter which store. If they carry them…they are on the shelf. Nobody is lining up to get them like some of their previous headphones and earphone had happened upon their release.
And maybe this is for the good because Sony has some issues to iron out on the Xm5 that these reviewers aren’t discussing. Like the fact that the headphones random shut down while playing music. According to reddit the answer to this issues until Sony gets out a fix is to remove the auto shut off feature from the headset in the software. For some reason the headphone just shut down as if not in use even though they are in use. Another thing that does work as intended is the pause feature for taking off the headphones. Unlike the previous headphone who had a sensor …this one uses something else but whatever it is using doesn’t fully know when you take them off unless it done a specific way. If not…then the music continues to play and play.
And then sometimes when you put them back on they pause then when they should have paused before. And then subjectively for me the headband is a spot of concern. It is a hot spot for sure for me. This skinny headband for some reason feels like a metal rod bent over my head. The cushion used just doesn’t help at all. And finally the placement for the power button is just in the wrong spot for this design…it easily pressed just picking up the headphones from a resting spot..but that’s not deal breaker as much. Overall, I like what they have done with the ANC more than anything else. Sound is just a small difference which could easily be EQ’d for in my opinion and not something that is truly what some are making it out to be. But at the end of day you have to be judge of things. The majority of the headphone is very good and I guess that’s all you can hope for at times.
