Well that didn’t take long . As usually Sony does come through their responsibility to update their products and the xm5’s don’t seem to be any different. Already Sony has released a firmware update to their newly released headphones and not too soon if you ask me. I, like others out there, picked these up(not sure if the sales are going like they’d hope or not) and found that we had some bugs with the auto play and pause not working as seemless as we would have hope. Not a deal breaker but the powering off part was what worried me. Randomly the Sony xm5 would just power off by themselves even if in the middle of listening on a full charge. Reddit users and other forms came up with the fox of turning off the power off feature but this cut into battery life if you forget to turn off your unit.

Now, as of right now there is no confirmed word on the firmware fixing these issues. Only that the firmware makes the unit work better for the most part. Nothing about powering off issues or play pause issues being fixed. So it could just be a typical update that was originally scheduled to go out before these problems started to happen for all I know but I do hope it will handle these issues. So far I haven’t had power shut off while listening to music. I also have noticed that the play and pause feature still only works if I do an action to simulate the pulling off and laying down. But if I just take them off my head without laying down …they still seem to continue at times to play still. But at least it is less. Overall, I think the biggest issue for me was the shut off issues and now this seems to be handled I’m free to enjoy them more because they are truly a great upgrade and worthy upgrade from the xm4. More to come!

Update: update DID NOT fix the power off issue with the wh1000xm5…
