I’ve been away from the front lines in this war for some years now. I assumed by now that this war was over and the only people still talking about it was the fanboy fanatics. I thought both companies had moved on from their attacks and jabs at each other. But in the last Google conference there seemed to more jabs thrown. Google made it their point to bring up what they had done while another company ,“Apple” are just now bringing it to their eco system. And while they also took the time to come up with yet another technique that Apple doesn’t have that is truly useful …the “Face Unblur”. I can’t help but see unneeded jabs and childish directions.

Yes, google pixel is most likely the best camera on a smartphone. But I guarantee apples Dynamic island..no matter what people claim about it, will show up in the google store if it’s not already there. So let’s stop acting like these two giants don’t some how copy off each other. But what I don’t get is why the simplest fact is being ignored. Apple is apple and android is android. They reach entirely different group of people and needs. If you seek open source and customization Android is the place for you. Apple just can’t compete there against that need vs Android. But if you looking for stability, security, and unification in a eco-system that just works effortlessly….Apple is the place for you. They also will be the home for the most unique accessories made for it. So yes Android and Apple are to address a different set of concerns and options.

Even I, while I enjoyed my time with android and didn’t really have any problems that made me run from them, I reached a point in my life that I wanted simplistic design and unification in my life. I missed the all in one design of apple that just worked by itself. The Apple Watch and the AirPods working together with my Apple iPhone 14 and IPad mini provided more connectivity and usability than anything I could have put together on the Android ecosystem. I didn’t have to make sure that I had the Samsung tablet and not a Pixel phone or visa-versa. Even if both were android they wouldn’t communicate with each other unless it was the same exact brand and even when they were the exact brand, I still couldn’t use things like Hey Google because one brand wanted me use Bixby instead or so forth and so on.

Apple just worked! What I want on my wrist I have on my AirPods, iPhone and iPad. They work perfectly and accurately. I don’t have worry about saying “Hey Bixby” for a command and it tell me it can’t do this but if I have google assistance it would. Nor do I have to wonder when google will fix text messaging for google voice for my watch or other products. Siri works just fine..every time. My workout tracking is perfect and activates when I need it. And now we even have fall or crash detection along with the ability to contact emergency services if I’m out of range of a cell tower if I need help.

This is not only amazingly cool but it’s practical and life saving. And at this point in my life this means more to me than open source, the camera app, or customization of Android. But at the same time I understand others aren’t in my shoes and may want the other things more. So I can’t understand why there is still a war when the companies aren’t seeking the same people or needs.
