The Bose headphone department confuses me a lot with the release of the 45 in their headphone line up. It was suppose to take the place of the 35 II but did it?? I mean let’s truly look at this because a lot of hype is around the 45’s and a lot of YouTubers tried to sell this as a true step up from the 35 II’s. But as I sit here with my 35 II still after years of faithful operation and unweaving dependability I am left scratching my head at some of things I’m finding out.

For starters, they are selling the 45’s as having a better Bluetooth that can finally do multiple pairing. Well, I hate to wake people up to this common fact but almost everyone was suppose to know by now that the 35 II got a update a long time ago that gave us Multiple Connection Pairing and it works perfectly. As I write this article on my MacBook while listening to my iPhone, I can bounce to a YouTube video on my Laptop and it will play the sound for it and I can go back to my phone and take a phone call after that. It truly works and is beautiful and effortless. I don’t need an upgrade or fix for this because it hear already and I’ve been using it for years.

Another thing they try and sell is the new colors! You get white over the Silver this time around. Yeah if you had a problem with the silver but if you are like me, the silver was fire. I actually love the look of the silver and it’s raised Bose sign on the ear cups. With the 45 you get paint…that’s right, paint! But don’t worry they gave you the exact look of the previous model to hide that they gave you a little less quality. But this again is suppose to make you want to go out and buy the new 45’s over the 35 II’s. And again for me, that’s just not the case.

And speaking of case…let’s not forget that they gave you a new and improve case because your case last time was just too big. Umm…not!!! It’s the same case because the previous case never needed fixing. I love the size of the Bose case and the folding ability of the 35 II which is the very same fold design in the 45 which is why the case really isn’t any different. But again, they want you to spend money on the product that has yet to show itself different. But don’t worry… you just wait…they are going to show you what your money was spent on. It’s the sound Right???

Well hold onto your horses folks! Sound on the 45 is actually worse vs the 35 II! That’s right, instead of them making it better they made it worse than the previous generation headphone and still expected you to go out and repurchase it. Why?? Better yet, why did all the YouTubers we trust lie and tell us that it was better when it isn’t. Ring rated the 35 II better bass, better mids, better treble, and better imaging. I mean it was flat out embarrassment of technology hype. In fact that only thing they could say that was truly better was the battery life was listed for 4 hour more but what you find out is that you truly only get 21 of the promised 24 hours. So the battery life wasn’t even truly that much better. And to truly put the icing on the top, the reason why the battery life isn’t truly better is because there is no way for you to turn off the Noise canceling nor adjust the strength in the Noise Canceling in the 45 even though you can turn off or switch to Low Noise Canceling modes on the 35 II!

If you haven’t got it yet, you most likely need some kind of brain surgery. Because if you haven’t figured it by now, the Bose 45 is not anywhere near being an Upgrade to the 35 II. It’s actually step backwards, not forward. So if you have the 35 II and they are working fine…don’t waste your money. And if you don’t have either and you looking to buy one, you might save a bunch of money going with a used pair of 35 II or refurbished pair before buying a 45 variant of Bose’s headphones. But if you truly have to have the 45’s …you can find them used on Ebay for $199 or lower. For me, I’m sticking with my 35 II’s if I want to use headphones from Bose or just use their amazing sounding Quiet Comfort II earphones instead.
