Sony’s Wf1000xm5’s are my ONCE and Future Kings of sounds. Every time they are reborn, they take the crown as king. They aren’t perfect but they are good enough for enough of the fans out there to buy and stand by. This generation was a little different for me as I struggled going back and forth these. At times they seem to be lacking the things one needs in a top tier sound and dynamics. And then at other times they seem to deliver on those very same features with no real reason for it.

But as I reported, I truly believe this is all due to the earphone tips that they shipped with. If you finally find a way to insert them and create the proper seal, then I believe you fall into a category that finds themselves in great favor with the sound and the ANC that they create. You also might find that you fall into a situation where these just don’t fit your ears well. This will prevent you from getting good sound and ANC obviously. But if you are patient enough you might end up like me and find a way to work around the tips by either adding more tips or getting use to the design of the tips by twisting rolling them and make the most out it. I think by twisting the tips of these into a funnel and inserting them then…you’ll find that the foam tips expand quickly, but if done fast enough it should seal better. At least for me it did. I could finally get base and dynamics and take advantage of the sound the way they were meant to be heard.

They also don’t really move that much, if at all, once you get them in your ears using this method. It makes huge differences in sound and fit. I’m truly in ahh about this earphone now with this method working for me. Do I believe they are the best sounding earphones in the world? NO,I don’t still. But I do believe for a great many people out there they are still the best overall and feature set of earphone money can buy? YES. Will I rock them as my daily? Yeah. Sennheiser still sounds better but the Sennheisers fit is just good enough once in…and when the Sonys are in …they are pretty much locked in. And then the biggest victory came from out of nowhere…the size of the case and buds are smaller, making pocket carry a breeze unlike the bulk felt with the Sennheiser in my pocket. I just looked forward to the case and smaller thumbprint on the Xm5’s more. And as far as ANC. They are good but not the greatest, same theme. The Bose are still better and the best there. But again the thumbprint and overall case and size of the earphones put the use in favor of the Sonys.
