A couple of years back when the Xbox launched, I was very much a big supporter of how simple and thorough their system was compared to the Ps5. They had all the answers up front and had game pass with huge plans on exclusivity. For me it was a no brainer. Get free day one games, get simple upgrade card, have greater battery life on the controller, whisper quiet build, Dolby Atmos sound, a company with billions to spend on more studios. But what I got was completely different. I got a company they only delay promised games, mismanagement, consoles with failure like buffer issues and downloading issues, controller communication with the console issues, games showing random controllers that weren’t yours, and multiple crashes back to the main screen. I went through 3 Xbox series X and sold my 4th before even opening it. All three had the same problems so didn’t want to deal with another.

Fast forward today. Xbox now have Starfield and Forza Motorsport coming soon. xbox also have a new interface and firmware that have handles all the software issues I was having. They also have a reworked hardware with better components and more reliable connections to the internet for wired connections to handle that buffering and a better remote communication with the controller. No more phantom controller connections. No more buffering and crashing. We basically have an Xbox that is built and operating like it was supposed to all along including needed games and continued free game advantages like MLB and Plagues Tale games that PlayStation still refuses to give free on their subscription. And I also get free EA Access with my game pass, also unlike what is offered by PlayStation which still makes you pay a separated fee for. Best yet, more games are coming finally and so far those that are coming look to be what I like vs what PlayStation is going to deliver on top of them abandoning me soon for yet another model, pro ps5 where as Xbox says it has no plans to put yet another console out right now(loyalty).

Yes, the war is over for this generation, nothing Xbox does is going to change that. However, for me the future looks better for them than PlayStation. So since buying another Xbox series x I haven’t stop playing games. Meanwhile my gut tells me that PlayStation will either put out less quality or focus less on story driven games and put more focus on networking and shooters like Microsoft has done. But unless PlayStation finds a way to add day one to their subscription… Xbox is going to slowly erode PlayStation over time in America. Maybe not this Gen but possibly next.
For me right now, for PlayStation, unless they find a way to get back on target the KOTR remake (which has been put on the shelf) all I see is Spiderman that I know for sure will be in my wheelhouse. The rest are demon souls games and Japanese action games. And none of those genres of games are what I like. For Xbox I see 5–6 games exclusives that are going to be interesting for me to play and best of all.. all free.
Like I said, the war is over for the rest of the world but for me I have truly been rebooted by Xbox for my gaming life. I never play more games than I do when I play on xbox vs ps5 for some reason and finally having a stable console and software to match, means I finally can truly enjoy it more so it was worth buying again.
