I will be the first to admit that a lot of things have happened since my original purchase of the Sonys wf1000xm5. They went from a very difficult fitted earphone to a earphone that with the tips rolled before insertion, fitted better and more secure than any other earphone, which led to the a unique sound that only the xm5 is able to do. These things create such a personal and detailed soundstage that it feels like the music is actually present in your world instead of feeling like you are pulled into its world. And I know most people would think that being pulled into the world of the music is where you want to be. But to the contrary, the magic created with it being a part of your world is much more unique.
It doesn’t mean that the world doesn’t disappear when you need it too. But it does mean that you have the option for both which is different because things like Asmr or Audio books become a experience never felt before. And at the same time rocking with Boris Brejcha in his DJ set or listening to Enya magical voice still gives you all the bass or clarity you need when you need it and never when you don’t. The details are like you have bionic hearing or something and yet there is not absents of needed bass or mid bass needed for the proper tonality.
Is it perfect? No, nothing is. It still can’t beat Bose with ANC despite Sonys claims nor is it better than the Linkbuds S in phone quality. But again checking the boxes and listing the overall abilities and features, nothing exist like these. Which is the reason I can say after all this time and testing, that the Xm5 is greatest of all time of any earphone on the market today.
