Look, let’s not pretend that today was a great day for Microsoft. It wasn’t! The FTC release of redacted information given by Microsoft during their trail really hurt the view of Microsoft and Phil Spencer. Everything was put out in view including their dirty shirts. On one hand, the Xbox has yet another console coming next year. It will be all digital and have faster Wi-Fi capabilities along with more storage options up to 2Tb’s. It also will be smaller than the current Xbox series x and use less energy.

It will also ship with their new designed Xbox controller. And this controller will have better haptics and an auto sleep and awake function connected to the controller being picked up. It will come with the ability to charge of course or use batteries but to my surprise it will even be quieter while buttons are being pressed(Finally).

Now the problem with all this is that Xbox gave the stance that no new mid cycle console was coming. Well, obviously this was a flat lie. And most will defend them and list this console as just addition but the problem is the heading is “the most powerful Xbox yet” says otherwise. If it’s not more powerful then why label it like this? If it’s just another option, it can’t be more powerful. Now, of course Microsoft could easily say this was originally planned and changed to save face for Phil Spencer.

But then came the email released from Phil Spencer and who said that Nintendo buyout should be Microsoft’s next step. He went into detailed about how Nintendo just doesn’t yet understand the future of their business resides outside of their traditional strategy, something many Nintendo fans took offense to. Now, such a buyout would need more than just a email suggestion from Phil Spencer so I don’t think Nintendo fans should worry. But it does give you insight on the vision of Microsoft even if they are blocked from ever doing it.

At the end of the day the FTC did some real damage to Microsoft and was behind possibly the greatest leak in gaming history. All of the plans for Microsoft and all their ideas for surprises or announcements are now flushed down the drain. It wasn’t enough for just to release the words but the actual images and graphs of the plans in details. I personally don’t know how Microsoft is not suing the FTC for this leak and how who is responsible for this isn’t fired and or prosecuted. But at the same time, Microsoft can blame nobody by themselves if they are caught lying about their intentions for a new console.

So when the smoke clears only the gamers will judge how their feel about this news with their wallets. I image Microsoft’s approval is going to take a huge hit and could uproot all they gained with Starfield release. I could be wrong of course. I can’t wait to see how the spin this.

UPDATE: We now know that all of this was Microsoft fault, not the FTC. Which now leads to even more concern over, once again, Microsoft’s ability to properly manage their company. I personally think this is worse. Not only did you show a level of incompetency but now you have destroyed the ability for the gamers to be surprised. Whenever this system comes out it will be old news.
