I’ve hinted to this day for a while. The inevitable direction of change for my gaming has evolved the older I get. As an owner of both consoles I have been a PlayStation player for most of this generation. They have easily been the best console hardware and place to play games. But things have been changing for a while now. Little tinny cuts to PlayStation have resulted in a some major gaps in their defense. Gone are studios like Quantic Dreams who brought Heavy Rain, Two souls, and the amazing Detroit become Human. Gone are games like Uncharted and Infamous Second Son in favor is boring IPs stories like Horizon and Ghost of Tsushima. The graphics look nice still on them but they just don’t tell the stories and connect like the other games.

Miles Morales was great and I think this last Spiderman 2 will be a hint for a lot of people. But for me it just seems to have a lot of things that take away from the core of being Spiderman, for me. I still think it will sell and have a great storyline though. However, my greatest fear for PlayStation is that this might be the last relatable game for me and my taste. Games aren’t what they use to be for me anymore, neither are the graphics. Based on the hype and all the power talk Sony and Xbox gave, Detroit become human shouldn’t still be one of the best looking console games still after the next generation arrived. By now all games should look like the level Detroit become human looked and they don’t.

So what I see is happening is that Sony has spent its web and now have nothing more left but renewing and remastering select past games and maybe bringing out another GOW, Ghost or Horizon. They have lost any idea when KOTOR is ever coming out, which should have been their Checkmate. The problem with this is that if you don’t like those titles left or are tired of them(like me), then what? They do still have the Wolverine game but nobody knows how that will even look or play. In the past this would work still in PlayStation favor because they always had the Detroit become human games, Uncharted games, and or Second son games. But now the tank is just looking low.

Microsoft on the other hand, because they were so bad and so poor in managing their studios and getting games out, looks like they have all the cards and new games lined up. They seem to be ready to deliver some serious titles while PlayStation is running dry and looking for fresh ideas. This, however…does not mean Xbox will somehow ever come back. This generation for numbers sake, is over. But this doesn’t mean Xbox isn’t more stacked for the game releases. If you own both like I do, then you are going to be spending a lot more time with the Xbox than you have in the past and your PlayStation might just become a dust bunny moving into the second half of this generation.
