So, can a cable make a difference? Yeah you bet your butt it can. It kills me how many people get upset at this fact. I bought this $89 Thieaudio Monarch MK2 cable for my Oracle MK2 because I liked the darker cloth like look on this cable more than the one that came with mine.
If I wasn’t already blown away before I now have an even richer sound with this EST Monarch MK2 cable. Not sure what wizard magic they incorporated inside the cable, but immediately after putting this cable on my Oracle MK2 I heard the difference. I wasn’t even looking for anything more than a better look and I got more. In fact, something tells me that the cable for the Monarch was not used on the Oracle MK2 on purpose to avoid similarity in sound. They already use the same dual Knowles armatures. This cable added to the Oracles better takes advantage of the EST drivers and overall richness and I’m guessing I wasn’t suppose to know this.
Now the only thing you loose bet switching to this thicker and heavier cable is the light weight but this also brings on more micro-phonics to the cable toward the upper part of the cable if it’s hitting against things. it’s not bad but just more than you had with the original Oracle mk2 cable. You can’t hear anything at the end of the cable if it’s stuck or bounces but if the cable that connects to your IeM and lays around your neck is hit you will hear that a little more. But I’m willing to have that if I have the richer sound and looks. You have to decide for yourself what’s important to you. But I will say that the sound I’m getting out of these I just can’t see anything truly beating it to the point it’s worth the money. It would have to be created by God or something to get better than this. But I have been proven wrong before and welcome it if this could happen. If something truly is better than this, it would have literally make my cry or something:). Do I believe something is out there that might more this or more that? Yes, but not to the point that is makes a real difference worth me paying double the price as these.
