So what are my nonnegotiable traits for a IEM? To put it short, anything that doesn’t line up with the Thieaudio DNA :). But putting all jokes aside, that’s a great question to ask yourself before getting an IEM. It’s a very personal choice that doesn’t require others for approval.
1. Fit is #1= I’ve said before but I’ll do it again, I’m not paying anyone to hurt me. You must fit my normal ears.
2. Your sound must fit your Price. Nothing bothers me the most than side grades and overhyped versions of IEM with $1K-4k price tags on them.
3. Quality control. You have to be reliable and consistent in your presentation. Nothing makes me more mad than failures.
4. Intimacy. Unlike a lot of people that seek wide soundstages, I don’t. I need personal intimacy in vocals and sounds. I would rather have doom over my head of sound than a room of it. I disconnect with the music if its vocals and sounds are too far away because I listen to ASMr, podcast, and every genre of songs out there.
5. Which brings me to the next. I can’t stand one dimensional forced IEM that are only good for one thing or another and not for all. It has to be a all-a-rounder
6. Mids is King – if your IEm doesn’t have flat mid range frequencies that produce realism in timbre, don’t bother talking to me. If Mids aren’t done right nothing else works.
7. Balanced Sub bass and bodied bass is a must. you can’t be sterile in your presentation and emotionless in the sound because you are missing the proper and realistic bodied bass and sub bass and you can’t have too much of them either.
8. Finally the proper EST treble drivers is a must have. No sibilance or harshness can be given while also having the proper amount of Ohms and DB to allow proper volume and flow of sound, even off a cellphone.
And so this my list and is probably why the Thieaudio Monarch MK2 is my Endgame because it truly embodies all these qualities better than any other IEM at any price.
