Sony’s gaming machine isn’t running on all cylinders as of late. Despite the majority of people out there owning a Playstation 5, both games and console profits seem not to produce the same hype most believe existed with the brand. Ironically, it’s the Xbox and Microsoft who seem to be in a better position than Sony, even with far fewer consoles sold. As reported above, a 10 billion dollar hit took place against Sony’s stock, thanks to the forecast being bad.

For some reason, it seems that people expected greater outcomes despite their success. It looks as though too many people were drinking the kol-aid of the lock down sale numbers of the ps5. They believe that the number would be sustained because they were greater than Xbox. Most wanted more from it, and it is this that has caused the stock hits. But this doesn’t mean Sony doesn’t have legitimate concerns. Never before has Sony gone over a year without a single major exclusive on purpose to my recent memory. This is new territory, and this doesn’t sit well with investors, obviously.
For gamers, though, I still don’t believe this will mean much to the fan boys. People just don’t leave their home console for droughts like this, with hype still being present about the brand. It’s not like no exclusives will be available, only the major ones. So, Sony ps5 owners will still have some titles to make them feel special about. But make no mistake about it, heads will still turn over their shoulders when Xbox releases things like Fable, Indian Jones, and others. So some of those people might just find themselves with two consoles if they don’t already own them now.

So the only question then would be which console will you be using more? Will it be the Xbox with its Gamepass and exclusives day one showing up finally? Or will it remain with the Playstation even without major exclusives based solely on who Sony has been year prior? Keep in mind that Playstation is changing and the outcome of these changes seems to be developing into a different directive than ever seen before. It doesn’t guarantee a change of guard or a complete departure of their roots altogether, but it does give reason for a pause or concern. Either way, I can’t help but feel changes are coming, and they look favorable to the gamers who aren’t brand fanboys.
