So I’m not sure if very many people know this or not, but swapping pads on the 6XX isn’t a good thing at all for the quality of sound, at least not these. I brought the Accessory House Global AHG pads on my 6XX because I saw some people having them on their 6XX, and it made it look a little different. Even though I had perfectly fine pads that came with my 6XX already, I thought that a different material like lambskin would last longer. Boy, was I wrong. I forgot how essential the pads were to the sound quality of the Sennheiser 600 series.

The pads are easily removable, but once off and the new one placed on it… everything changed in the sound. Gone was the rich layered bass. Gone was the timbre it was so great in. And of course gone was the pillow soft plush feeling and comfort fit. It was so generic sounding and basic in its fit on my head and ears. It literally felt like I had just traded a $2000 headphone for a $30 headphone found at a gas station.

So I, of course, ran back to put my original pads back on, and just like that, magic and lightening struck again. I was back being submerged in greatness of vocals and mids mixed with the amazingly perfect timbre thay only 600 series headphones can produce. It was like seeing color for the first time after coming back to the original pads from the lambskin pads black and white world. So, lesson learned. When I do need my pads replaced, it will be with the original pads only.
