He is Morpheus, the Dream of the Endless:). And just as I do with all my meaningful tech, the HD 490’s must be given a nickname. So this is the nickname I have given the HD 490! Because just like a dream the imagery in a real good dream takes you to worlds unknown and known alike. It is vast and every changing and yet you find yourself deep inside the dream world as it seems more real than the one you left before you laid down at times. Worlds are open and closed and time stops and slows down at well. Some dreams you grow up in and yet only a few minutes or hours take place. They have the power to change our very emotion in the real world or change the course of our waking lives forever. This is what music does when it applies to the right instrument. And for me, today, there is nothing I have experience as a whole that is better.
Sure you can get more resolution on one headphone, better mids on another, or more bass on another. But checking the box compared to this is not a contest. Yes, there are still those $1000-$10,000 headphones that have more power in one area or another but they can’t deliver the look, or the feel, or the build quality on top of the great Soundstages, treble, mids, bass and sub-bass like this. . The movement of these swivels inside the headphone cups is just absolute perfection. I have never experience a better hinge swivel system in a headphone. The headphone pads are Angel Pillows and yet don’t require change out of Pads every 6 months or so like some other headphones(600 series of headphones by Sennheiser). Which is why I truly think this is Sennheiser new flagship design in evolution. If it sells well they might move into this design as a New Series. There are already those out there that believe this is their successor to the 600 lineup without the things that most complained about.
Sennheiser has truly done something special with these headphones, continuing their dominating ways in the area of Audiophile headphones and Sound. Now I have the Momentum 4’s for plane rides and the like, the MTW 4’s for every day task away from my desk, and now I have the HD 490’s for absolute dominance of sound at my desk for my audiophile needs. This is the Tri factor of Sound all tied to one brand …”Sennheiser”( Fanboy reborn).
