So I’ve been living the high life in sound for th last couple of days. Things have really been on cloud 9 since I got the Sennheiser HD 490’s. They were already my number headphone almost immediately with just the standard 4.4 and 3.5 jack connections. It was the first headphone that I didn’t buy immediately with a XLR standard connection up front. The reason was because they were already so amazing to look at and even before I got them in I knew that the feel was going to be something next level for myself. Boy, was I right! Amongst all that the sound was absolutely fantastic but I knew that the 6xx was still a little more detailed in the mids. Problem was, I was using the XLR connection for the 6xx while I only used the 4.4 jack for the HD 490’s. I just thought it was because the 6xx was just a better headphone for mids where the HD 490 was just better in every single thing else.

All that changed when I ordered the Hart XLR connection cable made for the the HD 490 and plugged this into my THX 789. I couldn’t believe how fast they got me that cable. It’ was of high quality and look. Even the connection port for the mini XLR for the headphone was better than the original designed shipped with the HF490 4.4 cable to mini XLR. The original cable was very stiff to disconnect and connect. I didn’t mind because, at first, it was my only cable I wanted to use so I didn’t care how stiff it felt pulling it out or plugging it in …once it was in…it was in, I felt. It wasn’t until I got this cable did I appreciate how easily it connected and disconnected from the headphone. Now I see how things should have been done:). The HD 490 wasn’t just better at most things… it was flat out better period over all other headphones.

But once I got the cable connected and turned on my music, OMG. What was already the best became Legendary. The great soundstage went to EPIC soundstaging. The Amazing resolution went to absolute BOSS resolution. The Bass, the Mids, and highs all got the same treatment of Legendary status. But the Imaging mixed with the expanded soundstage was the King of it all. It became so pinpoint , so vast, and so exact… that it basically have destroyed any hopes for me to appreciate anything in headphones ever again unless there is a Part 2 of this headphone. This headphone as meant for XLR mini to XLR. It takes to this connection(at least with the Hart Cable) so well …almost like this is just what it was designed for. And if you are not using this type of set up… you are truly not hearing what these headphones should sound like.
