Well, today I bought my first Bugout knife by Benchmade! This was completely different for me as I normally stuck with the Benchmade knives like the 940s, Adamas, Crooked River, Freaks, etc, etc in the past before swore them off. I just never had much desire for the Bugout series even when I was into Benchmade in the past. They just seemed so poorly made and too much of a toy like look to them. When I started hearing reports about the bending frames of the Bugout back in the day, it was pretty much a guarantee that I wanted nothing to do with them. However, recently, I decided to gift my son my Para 3, I went out looking for what my next EDC knife would be and ended up with a carbon fiber Bugout.

I basically went against everything I swore not to buy by ending up with this Bugout. So why? Well, for starters, I couldn’t avoid hearing about the bugout models over and over again. But when videos on YouTube like Dutch Bushcraft Knives showed the abuse the bugout could withstand without failing at the lock up …it started to gain a lot of respect for it. Then, this led me to look up and appreciate all the custom materials and designs available for it. Which led to the renewed excitement and trust in the warranty that got me thinking. Finally, this led to my favorite knife commercial of all time, all over again.

I didn’t have any benchmade’s in my house anymore, and so this had to change, so why not with something new and different instead of going back with a model variation that had before in the past? So I ended up up with the carbon fiber Bugout aka Night King, because of its unique look vs. all other Bugouts, its ice blue glowing beautiful blue accents(pictures do no justification of this blue, I promise you), and its thin and sharp s90v blade that cuts finally unlike other s90v knives I’ve had in the past.

All of this was something I swore off a while ago. I didn’t want another s90v knife. Didn’t want another light knife, and frankly didn’t want another Benchmade, and yet here I am…fallen in love again:). I guess the real question is, what do I think now that’s it’s here? And my answer to that, at least on today, is another question ….WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE?” It’s a very beautiful Knife…possibly the best looking knife I’ve seen in years if not more. I really tried not to return back to Benchmade but I relate so much closer with its brand and its branding that I find myself with other brands like Spyderco, and enjoy the knife but never really find myself attached to them as I do when I have a Benchmade. I just hope this time, I’m not told about another flaw or QA error with this knife. As these things always run me away. If it’s not the Bailout steel fiasco, Anti-Gun rumors, or the bendable handles of the Bugout’s, something always seems to happen to Benchmades reputation and trust from their Consumers that they have later win back. Hopefully, they realize it’s best never to lose that trust in the first place, than to having to have to come up with extraordinary knives or fixes to previously released one to win people’s trust back.

For now ….WINTER IS HERE, and the Carbon Fiber Bugout…AKA “The Night King” reigns as my new #1 EDC knife!
