Checkmate is the goal for the game of chess. It is very unique in comparison to any other game because other games focus on big pieces captured or reaching the finish line. No, not chess. You can have the few pieces and / or the lease powerful pieces on board and still win with a checkmate. In most games, the one with the most pieces captures aren’t always the ones winning because it’s about who has the best position on the board and if that position actually results in the trap of the King, not the pawn, rook, knight, bishops, or even the Queen. All pieces are expendable because the ONLY goal is the King capture and some of the most impressive trap come from Kings being behind their own pieces, preventing them from fleeing.
Xbox and Microsoft are creating a Kingdom of Control on its chess board position. Despite how you or I feel personally, Microsoft has won, and nobody has really figured this out yet because Mate is 20 moves away(Gamepass), the majority of their pieces are still on board for Sony and others, and Playstation has Microsoft’s most stand out piece, their Queen(console sales). But if you pay attention to the temperature of the room, things have changed. Playstation is struggling for the first time to dominate their 1st party releases being empty of truly great must-have this year. Playstation also has tapped out on true growth on the console generation and has finally confessed this. Sales are slowing, and profits are not what they hoped.
Even with the idea of a new pro system, technology hasn’t developed enough to make a needed difference and they know they only will convince the same batch of gamers that already have a ps5 to buy a pro system, not make new buyers which limits progress of sales and true growth. But the most telling sign is the adaption of outlook of focus on other ways to gain profit is matching Xbox’s strategies but several years behind them. Gone are the reliable direction of exclusives to consoles now, just like Xbox already figured out. Now Playstation is looking to subscribers and PC for their direction just like Xbox, while making traditional console fans upset and nervous about their importance moving forward. But this was already mapped out by Microsoft and part of their end-game strategies.
Xbox now has the cloud infrastructure that playstation needs, has the studios’ domination and control Playstation needs now, and now has Playstation helping them sell their own games on Playstation’s own platform. Why? Because they have the power and control, something Playstation ex-president tried to convince regulators would happen and would ultimately be the cause of Playstation(as you once knew them) to fall over time because they knew they couldn’t keep up once Microsoft had the control over the game companies like Activision and Bethesda on top of the 3 trillion dollars giving them the ability to maintain their continued first party games day 1 on Gamepass across all platforms thanks to their cloud power and network ability to push cellphone and PC games they gain with Acquisitions for gamepass.
With that said, console focused gamers, traditionalists, and exclusive lovers, time is up, even if you don’t yet know it. Gaming is becoming something vastly inclusive not exclusive, and at the center of it all, just as planned, will be Microsoft and Xbox. Sony saw these pieces being moved, and they saw the checkmate down the road and tried to warn everyone but couldn’t hold the tide back with a broom.
So while everyone is focused on the pieces off the board, Microsoft was setting traps to get the world to set up the ending they needed with their own pieces to gain the only win that matters, Checkmate. And when this happens and the dust is settled, Playstation owners will have gamepass on their consoles one way or another(thinking this is win for them while not understanding that they are actually bringing profit to xbox), and Microsoft will gain the pool of players they always wanted to continue their profits even more. It is a masterful strategy and genius route to take and have your competitors work for you, and they have and will continue to strengthen this outcome every month that passes. It won’t matter how many people purchased a Playstation vs Xbox ever again because they understand that’s not where the money was in the first place, the fanboys just didn’t know it and still don’t.
