What a huge day for fans of the PI8’s! Finally, and I mean finally the firmware to correct most if not all the issues with the PI8s I’ve had and complained about. Right away, the first thing and THE BIGGEST fix are the battery issues! I can not tell you how frustrating it’s been using these with the battery problems it has had. Having my earphones sit in the case for days, forget hours, and you pick them up with the charge at 80%. Or when you finally get 100% ..after 2 minutes of listening to music, the battery level would go from 100% to 93%. Now, with the new firmware… it actually drops from 100% to 99%, 98%…97%.. like it’s supposed to. Not yet certain that they not drop charge over days, but this is a sign of better days. Hopefully, they find a way to kill off the delay sync on the transmission options for the case because that’s still there.

The touch control seems a little better and more accurate as well(still not perfect but better). They also connect faster and more consistently with the app, which was another small complaint but not as big as the battery levels being fixed. I’m not sure it charges any faster, though, and I can’t confirm that they will remain charged or charge to 100% if left for 2 days without using them. But this is actually a great step and positive direction that shows that they aren’t just given up on things and listening to some complaints.

While they are still my 2nd choice in comfort, ANC, phone call quality, and overall sound quality after my Devialet Gemini 2(aka Kai’Ckul), I still root for any company to make themselves better. Especially any company that charges $400 for their product that so many people assume is the best because they are new. For me, though, there is no other better than the Gemini 2’s even with my Pi8s fixes.
Update: So it looks like issues still exist with the earphones not staying fully charged. Mine sat in the case all night(case was fully charged). I woke up this morning and put them in, and they were at 98% and charging still. Pathetic especially for a $400 product.
Update 2: Today, the Pi8s rebooted in mid listening today. This was the first time this has happened, so it could be rare, or it could be a sign of things to come because of conflicts with the update. If so, this further pushes things backwards for the pi8s.
