Some have seen some of my articles about me canceling my order on these and not being willing to buy them. They believe it’s because I don’t consider them great or that I’m just hating on them. I assure you that I’m not doing that. I respect the previous version of the earphones, the Az80s. It was of very first earphone to score perfect score because they did exactly what they promised. Now, while what they promised might not have aligned with my needs, like the lack of real battery life if you used LDAC, their Bass being just a tad lacking, or the comfort in my ears being that the width was too thick. Not one of these things exists in the new az100 I’m showing.

So to that I wholeheartedly would give this my seal of approval even without trying this myself. This is how much I trust Technics. But despite that trust, despite the new liquid drivers and all the hype, when people calm down and truly admit the reality of the ear, it’s still a$299 product meant to compete with that price range. They don’t pretend to have the most luxurious or best sounding bluetooth earphone in the world. And it’s for good reason, because despite how well engineered this was to make, it’s not the Pi8’s and if it’s not better than them, it’s definitely not going to be the Devialet Gemini 2. That’s just the truth. And being that I have both, going with something that’s almost just as good isn’t worth it for me. It serves no point at all. It’s just the truth. But of course, there are going to be people who claim they are better, and they don’t even have these earphones or lie like they do. All to make themselves buy into the hype and feel better.

But make this perfectly clear as this look inside the Gemini 2 is above, there is but One Greatest sounding bluetooth Earphone, the Gemini 2 and one runner up, the Pi8’s. Frankly, if I’m honest, I hate that I have the Pi8’s because the Gemini 2 are that Earphone clearly when you A/B them that it’s redundant to have Pi8’s, outside of the case transmission options it provides. The Gemini 2’s are just that superior to everything that having other earphones makes things seem silly. So that’s why I decided that I’m not getting the Az100. Can things change later? Anything is possible. They could go out tomorrow, or the pi8s which I already have problems with could need to be replaced. But I say all that to say, if I could get these or the pi8 or Gemini 2 and I haven’t made that choice yet, I could totally see myself getting the az100 over the pi8s and Gemini 2 and saving my money because I still feel it’s too expensive for any bluetooth to be over $299. It just doesn’t make sense now if all it is a “Near” performance experience to the Pi8’s, near as good isn’t good enough now that I have the best already. But this makes perfect sense for everyone else. Just don’t be foolish enough to fall for the overhype and believe that they are equal or better because they aren’t. Being the newest hype doesn’t mean truly better. And at the same time I would be the first to say get the az100 and save your money because “Near as good” at $299 is better than $500 to be a little better with the honor of being the best for most people. For me though, it would just leave room for another product to consider because as good as the az100 will be they aren’t the very best in sound quality…the Gemini 2s are and having them means it doesn’t matter what comes…these are perfect and better than everything.
