The Bowers and Wilkins Pi8s were so great until they weren’t. As you look over what this earphone could have been, you can’t help but see the shell of greatness, possibly the greatest ever. The DAC and DSP integration in these makes them so great in sound power and volume. The transmission case that creates lossless sound from any source is almost by itself, one of the greatest features ever placed on earphones since ANC. The fit was pretty much perfect, and the case was perfectly portable.

All this was amazing, but then came the negligence and lies. They promised 6.5 hours but only get 5 if you get that. They promised quick charging, and yet it takes an hour to recover from a 1 hour session, one of the absolute worst charging times ever. They gave us a transmission case that doesn’t sync with the words and sounds of videos, and yet this is a huge feature for such things. Then, the lack of testing caused a bug that makes the earphone discharge in the case after reaching 100% if not used after 8 hours or so. People assume theirs units aren’t charging, but in fact, they do … they just discharge after time of non-use(very quick times of non-use). While some people deal with these issues, nobody should have to.

If only this unit came out with the promised things and operated the way they brag it to operate like. This could have been the very best to ever come into the game or possibly the greatest period. There would be no need for another bluetooth device for years, imo. Instead, we have companies like Technics that have stepped their game and taken over a space that should have been in control of by the Pi8s. So, in a way, the Pi8’s still did a great thing for me. It led me to other possibilities.
