I don’t know what happened with this earphone. I was all in for this earphone. The sound was so good at first, or so I thought. When I went away on the cruise with these and the Pi8’s,  I found myself using the pi8s 80% of the time. Very quickly did my ears began to reject the size of the Rex5’s. I loved the look and the lightness they had to them, but the over width of them started to remind me of the Az80’s. As great as they were, the overall diameter of the earphones started to make my ears feel irritated and a little sore.

The pi8 became my go-to once again, and I really started to see that the sound was still superior to the Rex5’s contrary to my previous thoughts day by day. When this happened, I started to look for ways to make the Rex5 EQ work better for my ears. But the problem was that the more I tried, the worse they became. I even reset things back to the original settings and started over and still weren’t able to make things sound magical again. I even tried to go back to them for a whole day, trying to reset my ear sensitivity back to its but still weren’t able to recreate anything resembling the mastery of the PI8’s nor Az100.

So once I got off the boat and back to my home, the Az100 became my desire and object that I missed and regretted not taking. Once I adjusted some higher treble to my EQ of the Az100, it became the best in sound and overall,  while the Rex5 took a seat in my top 4 in sound. No longer the best in sound and unbeatable. Maybe it never was, and I was living in a placebo effect. Or maybe the drivers finally opening up revealed that the sound wasn’t what I believed. Either way, things have changed for me. There was also this feeling that the drivers were unbalanced. Sounds seemed to weigh more to the right side, not good.
