Variations, you have heard of the Name before. It’s one of the Legendary IEMs for audiophiles all over the world. They were the pioneers of the perfect frequency response and proper usage of Est drivers. While others struggled in this area, Moondrop mastered it with the Variations. They were also one of a few companies pushing cable design like theirs with interchangeable tips for 4.4 balance, 2.5, and 3.5 options.

Moondrop truly outdid themselves and a case could be said that this one IEM was such a special one of kind result that it has yet to be matched by Moondrop still today. Yes they have continued putting out other IEMs but the following of the Variations has never been matched. Some believe it will never be matched and you could be looking at a true endgame IEM, a term most don’t like using because it’s overly used. But dare I say there is only but a few this is justly spoken of and the Variations is easily one deserving of such a title.

Its beauty is undeniable. Its unique look stands out in a crowd. But above it all the biggest thing is their sound. They are so aligned with the Harmen curve that it looks as though the curve was first made from their frequency response first and not the other way around. The way the shell sits into your ear and feels while there is something that sticks with you for years even if you ever sell or get rid of them. You alwsys remember how it felt in your ears. They made everything from the box to the accessories all feel special.

In most people’s experience, this was the first IEM that was truly worth the $599 price tag that it came with in 2022. And after 3 years on the market you still find the going rate being $599. This is a testament of sure respect and love people still honor the Variations with. I had to spend the same $599 to get my back after letting them go years back and all I can think about right now is the dread of losing them again if I don’t keep them after my IEM comparison because I’m only planning on keeping one. Which one of the 3 will it be between the Variations, truthears Nova, and Thieaudio Oracles MKIII, I don’t know. More to come soon. But for right now let’s just stop and appreciate the level of respect this IEM gained.
