As I sit here on the cuff of another technology change in my life, I was listing some things that I thought were so important initially that proved not to be important when I got my current phone, the Sony Xperia Vi. What I came up with kinda disappointed me. It all comes down to battery life, camera, and sound.

Initially, I was so hyped for the battery life I was going to get with this smartphone. And while it was hyped up as a 2 day phone, this one delivered exactly that. Many times I didn’t even bother charging my phone overnight and made it through the whole day the next day. But what I realized was that this option really didn’t make my life better. My last phone easily made it until the end of the day. Yes I had to charge it at night before I went to bed but this didn’t bother me because I was asleep anyway.

Next up is the camera. Anybody who’s anybody in the smartphone world has heard of Sony and their camera ability. And yes, while they have so many tools to do many things, a camera is only as good as its speed to use it in most cases. And in times where it’s not about speed, you would use your real camera. For your smartphone though, the Sony Xperia gets in my way more than it helps. It takes way too many adjustments and corrections, with way too many menus to get the proper shot you are looking for. There were just far too many times I wanted to just take a simple picture really fast and couldn’t. Either the camera activation failed to launch or it took too long to get me the settings I wanted. And editing took longer than it should if you just snapped the shot.

Finally unto the Music. For starters, all this hype about the sound of the Sonys must only apply to their speakers, and not the Bluetooth ability. Even with all the codex they have… I truly had less volume out of their phones for Bluetooth than any phone I’ve ever had. This mixed with the fact that none of the most over hyped codex(like APTX HD and Snap Dragon sound) out there didn’t really make any truely heard differences really gutted me.

On top of this they basically forced you to use this toggle to adjust sound from YouTube or movies to music. So you found yourself always having to turn this switch on back and forth for every decision if you wanted the best sound. Yes, they have options for it to determine the best sound based on what you were playing but it never worked right.

Now I could bring up the fact that some of my apps don’t work right at times but I can’t guarantee that it’s not the opeting system VS the phone. The bottom line is that this was one of my most disappointing phones I’ve had based on what it was said to be VS what it turned out to be. I’m not saying it’s trash. It’s just not what the hype called it to be. And yes I do regret buying it so this week I will be switching to another phone and do a comparison against the Xperia soon. More to come.
