I know people will say they know this but I can’t stress this more with this earphone than with any other earphone on the market. As the days pass you will hear a lot of people praising the Xm6 and some not so much. Now typically this is just a subjective thing but with the xm6 I fear it comes down to something more complex, their foam tips.
The Xm6 was designed for foam tips. And of course if you deviate from that path, you get bad results from sound issues to ANC not being effective. Unfortunately not all ears handle foam tips the same. Even with medium ears you can find yourself with sore ears or foam burned skin in your ears liner form twisting and pushing them in to force a seal because a great seal, nothing that is promised and hyped up about the xm6 will work.

And even when you do get a seal, you find that the seal is sometimes at levels. The better the seal the better the results. But the problem with that is that other earphones just slide in and create that seal somewhat naturally. So the challenge for a consumer that buys the xm6 is find the balance of size mets ease of entry points that still create seals.

For me I found that if I just use the largest tips and putting them in my ears without trying to push the too deep and without trying to twist them in any fashion, I can get a good seal that doesn’t hurt my ears or inner liner of my ears. It allows the proper bass and soundstaging with great ANC abilities as well. But with that comes the pebble look sticking out of your ears.

Maybe this is what was meant in the first place, I don’t know. Maybe me as well as bunch of others people that had problems with the seal over did it or something. Maybe we were trying too hard to keep ourselves from looking like we have pebbles sticking out of our ears by pushing them too far in. All I know is that I was seriously about to return them. I have one unbreakable rule about anything I buy. I refuse to pay a company for them to hurt me with their products and my ears had had enough.

So, I urge you all to make sure you aren’t having issues with pain or soreness, when it comes down to your fit with any earphone but especially with the Sonys. I can see how someone can walk away believing that their Xm6 is the best sounding and best ANC when they have the right seal. Even I had a night and day moment this morning my wife snoring. Typically it always defeats my earbuds with ANC but my Bose. This time the xm6 killed it off and didn’t have a single pressure build up in my ears while doing it. But the day before the xm6 couldn’t block out a pencil rolling on my desk. Night and day difference.
All I’m saying is that seal matters. If you aren’t wowed by the xm6 this could be the reason. And if that is the case, go up in size and try not force them too deep more than just allowing them to go in your ears with a normal push and it might just take without a lot of fighting and seal properly. This way you have comfort and when you have this with a proper seal, your brain can focus on the music more.
