Watch fanboys are all weird. I don’t believe in fanboy thoughts about brands. Not a single brand of a product is God, nor are my wife or children. Those are the things I’m loyal to. And while I have a lot of watches, and the concept of having a watch has applied to me since I was 3 years old, it is a product to be used. The brands themselves are many, and I would hate to think what it would mean to me if I had limited my life to only one brand or another. I have Seikos that have meant a great deal to me and been on my wrist for years. I have Casio brands that have done the same thing. And then I have the IWC, TAG, and Omegas of the world too. I have no loyalty to anything but Christ and family.
My new watch, the Seamaster 300, is yet another watch that was added to my hobby, and it’s fantastic. The look, the feel, the history, and the reliability are what I seek from watches. Omega delivers this for me and millions of other people, but they aren’t the only brand that offers these things. I’m so tired of hearing ideas about one brand over another. If a watch is delivering, give it its flowers. If you have the money to spend on it, do it, no matter the brand. If it’s a Panerai, get it. If it’s a Cartier that you’re into, go get it. It doesn’t matter if you’ve always bought IWC or something else. If the watch connects with you, buy it.
For me, the combo of a Master Chronometer certificate with COSC is just better. Better escape inventions for a longer time away from servicing is huge for me and my money. For you, it might be the Green Box or the thought of the name Rolex. Or it might be the unique look of Panerai. Go get it, but don’t limit yourself to one brand as if they own the right to quality because they don’t..

Is Rolex the better choice over Omega? If you see your watch primarily as a prestige object or investment, then the answer is yes. If, on the other hand, you simply want a good watch with a precise movement, first-class workmanship, and a unique design, Omega and Rolex are at least on a par. In many cases, Omega is even the better choice. Ultimately, you should choose the watch that you like best.
As you can see, even in the video above and the comments made by the overwhelming number of people who sided with Omega, there is passion that lands on one side of the table, and yet there were still people who landed on Rolex. Nobody is wrong as long as they are making the choice from an educated point of view and not from assumptions.
For me, my choices surround superior certified movement, a longer history, and a more durable escapement design, requiring less servicing. I don’t care what the resale value of my watch will be two years from now. I didn’t buy it to sell it, nor do I care about how hard it is to get one to brag about. For others, this is important. The status symbol is everything to them. They don’t care about movements, certifications, or innovation. They care about the name more than the abilities and functions. Nobody is wrong, but for me, obviously, my Omega Seamaster 300 polar is my direction. I never even considered a Rolex because of the limited variations and idle nature of the brand’s innovation pursuits.
