There are many brands and tools consumers use today to express what great audio sounds like to them. They all have their trusted brands and styles. Whether we are talking about Sennheiser, Sony, or even IEMs, earphones, and/or headphones, one thing remains consistent: audio is completely subjective. No matter what I’m hearing and believing about one product, one sound, one song, and the like, I can never assume others will have the same results as me. Even if we compare the same brands, one person will have a different view of the company or product.

With Bluetooth earphones alone, you have everything from fit to EQ, or gimmicks, all playing a role in things and opinions even before you address brand bias. Even the very eartips that are placed on the tools create a completely different outcome from person to person. And this goes even deeper into the amount of hearing each person has lost. So you can really start to see the complications in this world. And if you can see that, forgive me for asking, but then why do you fight over it?

So when I picked up the new Sennheiser MTW 5s, my experience was unique. I can’t truly explain what I’m hearing or feeling, but I’ll try. The way they fit into my ears and become one with them is completely connected to the sound quality: the smoothness of the mids, natural tonality, the emotional impact of the bass quality, and the superb imaging they produce. This doesn’t mean someone else couldn’t have the exact opposite reaction to the same earphones, and I wouldn’t claim they’re crazy. However, that’s not what happens. If someone says it’s amazing, someone else will feel threatened because it doesn’t align with their results or because you’re bringing attention to a brand they don’t like.

Even the very look and color of a product can spark fights. Someone claiming that the gold looks way better than the cream or black can make thousands fight, even on the exact same product. This makes no sense at all to me. We are literally talking about the same product. It’s so bad that I’ve actually seen people swear that the color of the product makes subtle changes to the sound, making them better than other colors!

So when things like EQ exist, it basically can gaslight this whole thing in even newer ways. Now it’s not about the default sound of things. Now you can make the sound whatever you want it to be. And as long as the drivers are high quality and you know what you’re doing, you can make something good, outright devastating. Now it’s definitely not going to be about a universal result that everyone hears, even more than it already wasn’t. This is where we get the purists that come in and condemn EQ use. They are the ones that can tell you what to do and not do with your own product, even within the availability of the powers given to them in the very app of the makers. Let that sink for a second:))

For me, the Sennheiser has become my best overall earphone because of what they say they can do, and it delivers on it better than most. Their sound and fit create a sense of a different reality…also like “Superposition” in the series Dark Matter…hence the nickname “Dark Matter.” When I put them on and the sound and fit connect and disappear behind the music, my mind loses the understanding and thought about what is going on outside of the sound and silence created within the reality of these earphones. My mind finally shuts down, and nothing exists around me but the sound I’m hearing. I don’t register the existence of other things around me, nor the problems, or any other situation that demands my attention away from the moment inside the world I’m in with them on. This has so much to do with the fit and connection to the music and the quality and realism it produces, and I’m here for it. I’ve been looking for this level of escape all my life. But again, this is just me. I don’t think for one moment that people should feel like me or think like me. But I’m still more conflicted with how others do expect this.

At the end of the day you have to go with what makes your life better and more exciting I guess. This is what the world tells us anyway. For me I personally see the benefit in all the earphones I’ve ever owned, hence why they are owned by me. And more than likely I own a pair that you own. So I support your choice in your earphone even if I pick one that isn’t what you own because I know for you, yours in your world and taste, is exactly what you need it to be just like this is mine for me.
