Look, I am going to do something against my better judgment and norms. I am going to defend Apple. Yes, the owner of a Fold 8, which is still the best foldable in the world in my opinion, is about to defend Apple. I know, I know, this is not what you want to hear off the back of all the negative reports about app compatibility. I get it, I really do. I started my morning off laughing and poking fun with my friend about the iPhone Duo. I was as shocked as anyone when I watched MKBHD’s review, when he showed how many problems and app issues the Duo has. Why? Because Apple spent all this time downing others for this and bragging about how they went about making sure things would be compatible.

And yet here we are, and they can’t even display a website properly, let alone their apps. This seems to be the biggest point of contention most people are having with Apple. They also talk about the battery being less than they wanted, the weight being too heavy, and the thickness, but these were already points of concern most knew about. What we didn’t expect were crashes that some reported, problems with dual apps working as promised, Touch ID unlocking delays, and ugly, horrible layouts that didn’t fill the screen as they promised. Not even the movies they bragged about fit the screen. In fact, they had bigger bars than any other foldable phone released in the last three years or more..

My Fold 8 outside.

Yes, yes, and yes to all those things. Every single one of those things is enough for all iPhone 18 owners and Fold 8 owners to sing and laugh at Duo believers. If there was a time to get in your laughs, it would look like this is the moment. And yet I say nay! No, this is the time all should remain silent until the day appointed for launch has come and gone. Why? Because even now, developers around the world are pushing out updates to their apps to make sure they do not anger Apple. This is not some open-source software glitch. This is about developers being too lazy to update something Apple already worked out for them. It does not require much work to fix, according to reports from Apple. So, anyone not doing it will soon be called out by one of the biggest companies in the world, and trust me, they do not want that. Something truly tells me that by the time the 23rd comes around, the things you are hearing about today will result in a completely different outcome as far as the apps and scale are concerned. So, calm down and take a beat from history. Apple did not sit still when the first iPhone launched with compatibility issues, and they will not here..

If there is anything you can criticize them for, it is the hardware. The button layout for volume and touch controls, along with the camera button, are all a mess. The swipe-down controls are a mess. The Touch ID delays are a mess. The visibility of the matte screen versus the cover screen is an issue for some. The weight and thickness are definitely permanent, so there is no way of getting around that fact. Basically, any issues you had with the iOS walled garden or the physical nature of the phone, layout, and buttons are not going away. Even if you hate the right-side dock, it is there to stay, at least for a while. So, if you are going to attack the credibility of the Duo on those measures, have at it. I just warn you to wait and see the conclusion to all of this regarding software glitches and scaling until it is truly over, because you might find when you wake up on the morning of the 23rd that everyone is suddenly praising the Duo for the scaling of its apps.

So Calm Down…Apple isn’t done and I’m sure they are preparing for the official launch to go off much better than their embargos review day. A lot could change by then and you don’t want to be that person making fun of the dude that ended up taking the hottest girl to prom, while you sit on the wall just regretting the punchline. Be sure it’s a failure before you celebrate prematurely, that’s all I’m saying. Apple has more to come, I bet you a buffalo nickel this isn’t over. But at the same time, when it is, I’m still more happier with my Fold 8, even more so now. Its still my phone of the year.
