There is no way around this battle; it had to be done and confirmed. The Sennheiser MTW5s are easily the best-sounding earphones ever. However, does this mean they are the best earphones? The answer is no. No matter how amazing the sound is for the Sennheisers, it is very limited compared to the complete package of the Sonys, especially once you change out the tips for these $6 silicone ones.
This one change to the Sony XM6s created the most complete package in Bluetooth. The XM6s do so many things that the Sennheiser MTW5s do not even try to compete with. Honestly, despite all the hype surrounding the Sennheisers and the greatness of their sound and fit, once you really look at the two, the Sonys ace it over and over in way too many areas. The ANC is much better, and the hear-through is clearly superior, despite my previous thought that it was Sennheiser. The Sonys feature auto-reading of text messages, voice control options, Google voice activation, speak-to-chat modes, touch-to-attenuate modes, shake-your-head-to-answer-call options, LDAC, a 10-band EQ, DSEE, better touch controls, better ANC battery life, and even better multipoint.
To be honest, there is very little comparison between the Sennheisers and the Sonys when you truly start to add things up. Now that my honeymoon phase is over, I am finally thinking less biasedly about things. Yes, I am still blown away by the sound quality of the Sennheiser MTW5s, but the Sonys are still in the top three for audio quality, so you cannot say the sound does not wow you. The XM6s are still the once and future king of Bluetooth audio. Having the best sound and fit does not replace all the things the Sonys do better than the Sennheisers. Not even the battery replacement makes up for the number of things being left on the table if I move away from the Sonys, because the Sonys already have battery protection modes that work to extend the life of the battery. In fact these same result are found on the headphones of Sennheiser vs Sonys headphones too. Sonys win the outright checked marked wins there too. In fact the Sonys xm6 headphone and earphone combo is the best there is.
But make no mistake, if sound and fit alone are what you need, and you do not care about the gimmicks and features of the Sonys, then the options for Bluetooth devices are very clear. The Sennheisers put all other Bluetooth devices on notice; the sound is next-level, dimensional, and emotional, no matter what you are listening to. These earphones will blow you away with their sound while disappearing in your ears, providing one of the best fits of your life.
So choose people; there are no wrong choices. Nothing you pick will let you down as long as your pick is grounded in informed decisions, and that first starts with knowing thyself. You have to know what you are looking for before you can make the right choices. I hope I have done enough to inform you throughout my journey with this product.
