It is coming soon, folks. Apple has just confirmed its duo, the long-awaited foldable iPhone. This was thought to be introduced at its last conference, but it was not. However, there was just too much proof that it was coming for this foldable iPhone to be a surprise to anyone. Even though it was not a surprise, that did not stop the wow factor. All tech reviewers were on-site at the press conference, and they were all singing praises about the new fold. Just like always, Apple comes to the party late, but it always does something that sets its unit apart from all others.
This resulted in software that will be a part of the Fold Duo, as well as the hardware. Let’s start right off the bat with the screen: that gorgeous matte screen at 4K resolution. Let that sink in. 4K, people, not the 2448 x 1848 pixels of the Samsung Fold 8, 4K! That was already enough to boast about, but they didn’t stop there. They added the ability to use the Apple Pencil with the Fold, something Samsung has yet to capitalize on.
Then they added the new Siri to the software package, a well-needed and belated addition. This Siri will finally be a true AI, not just an assistant. It will be able to interact with the entirety of the phone and every single application. This is something only Apple can do because of its software ecosystem. They also ensure that the assistant is completely locked to your phone or a private server that not even Apple can access, guaranteeing that your searches and results stay with you instead of being used to train AI models or being sold. This is incredible.
They then showed how the form factor of the new fold is actually properly sized across software. Even Safari will automatically adjust for the best viewing on your Duo. This is another stab at Samsung, which cannot control this aspect of its software-to-hardware integration because of the open-source nature of its platform.
Finally, the look is just outstanding. Rounded corners look amazing on the unit versus the square-shaped design of the Samsung Fold 8. The bezels and screen look like they are floating. And, of course, Apple has added its unique addition to the animation of the screen pass-off. It looks like you are literally lifting a piece of glass off the page to transition it to the second screen or back to the first. Absolutely genius. The first time I saw it, I thought it was just a video effect they put into the launch video. But no, it’s a part of the device, once again making the little things mean more and therefore making the product look so much better and more important than others that have been doing folds for years. This is what Apple does, people. Even their cameras are completely destroying the competition. Unlike Samsung, Apple’s camera system is more advanced and way better. They didn’t just take a shortcut to rush something. And this is why this product will redefine the foldable world, even though they once again showed up late to the party.
