Look, I would love to consider one of these folds as my next phone. But for me, I hate that both of these represent things I don’t want in my life. Look, I know there is truly only one dominant fold now in the world that is about to be released soon: the DUO. Everyone who bought the Fold 8 is now scrambling, trying to find a way of uploading it back to the store or sell it if they can’t. Just check how many different used Fold 8 offers there are. Apple is flat-out killing it before they even do preorders. They have already changed the culture. And trust me, this is going to be a fight on pre-order date and launch.

For me, I still have a perfectly working Fold 7. So for me it’s more complicated than just picking up an iPhone. I am going to lose things that I have right now. My Samsung watch is gone and useless now. Samsung Pay is gone and useless now. Samsung AI features…gone. I don’t care what anybody says; these things come in handy, and I just don’t believe that all of a sudden, out of the blue, on day one, Siri will be just as useful. Everything from writing emails to writing my articles is so much easier with the help of the Samsung AI features built into the phone. No more LDAC and APTX codecs. Even the very wait will be an issue. Etc. Etc. And the newest thing I found out is that the width of the iPhone Duo is even wider than the Samsung Fold 8!

Look, I get that this is always going to be a common issue when you consider switching OS’s. But it doesn’t make it any easier. I am also aware that I don’t really need to make a decision about this right now. Nobody is forcing me to do this. This whole conclusion or pressure is strictly on me and the FOMO. I understand this better than most. And I’m the guy always telling other people this fact. Now it’s time for me to take my own advice, and I’m freezing, of course. This jump solves no problem for me. I don’t have a single thing that I’m missing from my Fold 7 that I wish I had that is present in the Apple Duo only. In fact if anything the Fold 8 makes more sense than the Apple Duo even though it is clearly the one that is being outclassed come next month.

At least with this, I keep everything I own and lose nothing. I’m only getting better battery life and a more useful front screen for use. I get a more unified screen size on the Fold 8 vs. the Fold 7’s open shape. But even if I gain these things…I am still stuck with the same question. What do I do with the Fold 7 then? Can’t sell it if it’s still being paid off? Don’t want to buy the Fold 8 under a payment plan…so I would just pay for it outright. But then, if I do, I’m still paying for the Fold 7. I guess I could just pay off the Fold 7 and then get the Fold 8 under contract. I guess that would make sense. But if I do that, I guess I could do the same for the Duo. I just don’t know right now. I don’t want to wait too long for this decision, just in case I miss the incredible sales of the Fold 8 if I go that route, but I don’t want to move too fast and regret it next month when I want the Duo regardless.
