I love when articles like this go up to try and clickbait people into the snap belief that everyone has stopped buying consoles and does not want to use them anymore. Fewer people buy consoles in the world at the end of their eight-year cycle every single generation, especially when said console game makers have already started their announcements of better upcoming console releases. The false alarm bells for gaming are so crazy. Over two million people bought Wolverine for PlayStation. PlayStation 5 Pro models, which are the most expensive ones, are heavily sought after—so much so that the used consoles are going for well over $1,000 apiece. These two things cannot be true. If nobody wants to buy consoles, why buy them used for over double the cost? If nobody is buying consoles, why raise the prices?

Just two hours after that article, CNET posted a completely different outlook. What it reveals is that the real truth is that people do not want to buy Xbox consoles anymore, or they do not want to buy lower-powered PS5s anymore. If that is the case, represent the truth instead of lies. Microsoft is not gaming alone, nor is PlayStation, so be factual and explain the real shortage to identify the real reasons. The fact is that most people who want a console would not take eight years to decide to buy one unless there is something truly driving new buyers, such as new IPs like Wolverine and GTA. Where do most people want to play GTA? On their PlayStation 5 Pros, hence the sales of used units if someone cannot get one new. This is the truth; gaming is just fine on the PlayStation side of things, as it always is, no matter how many articles go up about them rejecting discs and physical media, or how many stories go up about Xbox’s new leadership and their promises yet again. When the rubber hits the road, it is about PlayStation; it has been and always will be. Sorry to be the one that tells the truth. When the PlayStation 6 comes out, they will beat Xbox consoles all over again for yet another generation of embarrassment, and Xbox will continue to fire people, blame all their failures on everything, and make excuses and changes before they go back on their word about another promise they made to gamers. Why? Because they are not a true gaming company; they are an investment group wrapped in one successful, dominant software: Windows. They know how to make their senior leaders’ profits go up but have zero understanding of how to truly manage and create games.

Here is the punch line to all this though. Gaming needs them to have a balance. PlayStation needs competition to stay honest with its gamers and direction. Nintendo’s console success will never threaten PlayStation. So they can never keep them from ever getting to prideful. And every time you see them get out of line is because of how useless Microsoft has been as a real competitor towards their dominance. Unfortunately, despite this truth, every generation Xbox is a failure at this job. Even more sad is the fact that they don’t even understand why because they never keep their word. They promise and then turn against the good will they create, every single time. That and the fact that they don’t even sale in as many territories as PlayStation mathematically creates the inability to ever win. Truth is truth folks.
