So it is time to test the Fold 8; this is my first foldable phone. I tried and tried to avoid this, but for some reason, it kept coming back. My friends who own one say it is great. Strangers who have one say it is great. It is one of those items that you see and you know what it is. So, if Samsung wanted to be successful there, they succeeded.

They make many different colors for different people, which is great. Variety is missing from many tech releases, so it is good to see Samsung taking advantage of this. I personally went with the black. I could have gone with the white if they had it, but they didn’t, so black was my next choice. Now all I am waiting for is a case that arrives tomorrow, and I should be set.

Then I can really start my process of testing. So far the phone is warm and all I am doing is typing and listening to streaming music. But I will say I do not think it is much warmer than my Fold 7. Both of them are missing a vapor chamber, and this has been at the forefront of my concerns. But once again, nobody I know in person has told me this is something they have had a problem with. I merely get all the doom and gloom online. But truly, I think the whole world knows what all the fuss is about. The elephant in the room is Apple.

Apple is set to launch the Duo next month, and by all accounts, this is set to be a record-breaking event. The unit is more sophisticated and advanced than the Fold 8; there are no bones about that. I am not going to pretend that this fact does not exist. It does. So why not just wait for Apple, right?

• Samsung pay

• More customizable OS

• Available Codex for sound quality.

• Apple DUO weight is too heavy

• Fold 8 went on Sale

• Better symmetrical design for both hands

• Samsung AI features are King

• Sound options for IEM and Bluetooth.

Now I get that Apple has major advantages when it comes to gimmicks, but the only thing I was impressed by was the ability to scale across apps and the Siri integration of apps used for AI tasks. At the end of the day, I just wasn’t feeling returning to the Apple ecosystem’s walled garden. Could this change once I have more time under my belt with this Fold 8? Sure. If it doesn’t really ring my bell after getting used to it, then it will be returned, and I will continue to use my Fold 7 or consider the Apple DUO then. These next couple of days will determine a lot. For now, I am only 3 hours into this Fold 8. I can see the appeal but haven’t determined if it’s a appeal greater to me than my Fold 7 or Apple DUO.
