Apple is in a unique situation here. On one hand, they have their flagship model just released in the iPhone 18 Pro. People lined up for it as usual, even though the lines these days are less than they used to be. Nonetheless, they were lines unlike those for any other phone company in the world today. But soon there will be yet another option for Apple users, called the iPhone Duo, and it is set to make waves as well and cause lines to form, despite the more expensive price tag starting off at $1999.
And here is where things get complicated. Normally, the most expensive product is the flagship model with the most features, a faster processor, the best screen, and the best cameras. Now, there are so many people claiming that this is not the case this time. This time, the best phone has already launched. While in the past Apple fanboys would ignore facts about other brands, this time they are fighting among themselves. You are about to attack the slab iPhone 18 Pro in order to sell the Duo. Even if Apple tries to avoid comparing the two, it is naturally going to happen. You are going to split Apple fans into wanting one or the other, but what they won’t do is buy both. Typically, when this happens, they spend a lot of time talking one item down to bring up the other or to justify the money they spent on it.
It is going to be tougher this time out, I think, with the direct threat coming from not just Samsung but within your own camp. People will either hate Apple for making them feel like their important iPhone 18 Pro is somehow not as cool as they believed, or they will hate Apple for making them feel that their brand new foldable phone is just another option and not the most important tech item released in the last couple of years. Why is this the case? Because you cannot sell both as the most important or best, especially when one is almost double the cost of the other.
The complainers have already started their complaints within the Apple fan base. They are already trying to talk down the approach to the foldable phone. They are already claiming it to be a failure or unwanted. Some are posting the question, “Who asked for this?” Now, this typically does not happen against Apple from its own, but it is now.
Apple already faces major competition from the Z Fold 8. The last thing they want to deal with is the possibility of internal threats arising within their ecosystem, such as fans fighting against other fans who own the same products. This is new territory for Apple. Typically, they do not launch two great flagship new designs within the same keynote and launch window. You normally get one device launch, only to have the other launch much later, not within one month of the other’s release.
Personally, I think Apple is setting itself up with options, but at the same time, I can truly see how this could be a problem, as it creates splits in their own ecosystem when typically it is Apple against others. They know how to attack and show up the competition all day long, but this would need to be treated with kid gloves because so much could be damaged on the other side of the table. This could one of the biggest internal fighting Apple fans have ever found themselves in if all the signs continues to point to this conflict.
This, of course, isn’t something I would have to worry about thankfully because of my Side rides with the Samsung Fold 8. This is the best phones I’ve ever had, and I’ve had almost all of them. Grown man here, so I don’t spend my time possing for selfies in front other people’s cars. My son is grown and therefore have little need for Snoopy to play on my screen. So for me the Apple represents walled gardens and limited options and Customization. Already have access to satellite coverage with T-Mobile. So safty isn’t a thing either. Got 2 days of battery life on my Fold 8, so I don’t need battery power. And I don’t play games on my phones ever, so dual vapor chamber doesn’t really change a bunch for me either. But the outcome of this from a iOS fandom side of things will be really interesting as it unfolds for the next couple of years.
